Declining airplay of Slade's releases in the late 70s led Jim Lea to wonder if Slade's Holder & Lea penned songs would received a better reception if they were recorded by another band. During late 1979, he formed 'The Dummies' as a side project with his brother Frank to record several Holder & Lea penned songs. The group released three singles "When The Lights Are Out", "Didn't You Use To Use To Be You" and "Maybe Tonight". All were written by Holder and Lea. The singles received plenty of airplay but sales suffered from distribution problems. The single "Maybe Tonight" was released in 1981.
