Which journal is included in which index?
If you want to find out which indexes journals are included in, this video will help you.
Journal Impact Factor Advantages
Hundreds of scientific journals are published worldwide, covering every field of science. However, it's a well-known fact that it's impossible to read all the articles published in these journals. It's even difficult to read all the publications in your field, let alone all the journals. Therefore, we need to know which journals the articles we're going to read are published in and whether these journals are high-quality journals. The impact factor is a metric that determines the quality of journals. This allows us to distinguish between high-quality journals and low-quality journals.
80% of published journals have an impact factor below 2, and 20% have an impact factor above 2. If we consider an impact factor of 2 as the threshold, we can say that 20% of journals are classified as high-quality journals. Therefore, the journal and its impact factor are very important when reading articles. In our other article, we discussed the five journals with the highest impact factor.
Journal Impact Factor History
The impact factor was devised by Eugene Garfield, founder of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Impact factors for journals listed in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) have been calculated annually since 1975. ISI was acquired by Thomson Scientific & Healthcare in 1992 and became Thomson ISI. Thomson ISI was sold to Onex Corporation and Baring Private Equity Asia in 2018. Clarivate, the publisher of the JCR, was established and continues under its umbrella.
