Have you ever read a book where the villain was more interesting than the hero? Yeah. Me too. Writing a novel is not easy whether you write children's picture books, non-fiction, or epic fantasy. But a hero's journey needs to be unforgettable, not just passively reacting to the obstacles the villain is throwing at them. A good and well-developed character will have a will and motivation of their own. When this happens, their character traits will jump off of the page and leave readers wondering what they are going to do next. The advice in this video will help you avoid common mistakes when developing your character and write better heroes, ones that readers can't wait to see what they do next.

Hey writers, for examples of great character development in writing, check out these books with FANTASTIC heroes! Studying how other authors developed their characters will help you write a great novel or short story.
