🖥️ Step 5: Installing Kali Linux in VirtualBox
With the virtual machine prepared and the Kali Linux ISO attached, you're now ready to install Kali Linux inside VirtualBox. This step will guide you through the entire installation process to get your penetration testing lab up and running.
✅ Follow these steps to install Kali Linux:
Start the Virtual Machine
Select your Kali Linux VM in VirtualBox.
Click Start to boot from the attached ISO file.
Choose Installation Method
On the boot menu, choose “Graphical Install” for a user-friendly interface.
Press Enter to begin.
Select Language, Location, and Keyboard Layout
Choose your preferred language, country, and keyboard layout.
Click Continue after each selection.
Configure Network
Set a hostname (e.g., kali).
Leave the domain name blank (or set one if needed).
Click Continue.
Create a User Account
Set up a full-name user (e.g., Student, Ashok).
Choose a username and a strong password.
Configure Time Zone
Select your time zone based on the location set earlier.
Partition the Disk
Choose “Guided – Use entire disk” (safe for VMs).
Select the default virtual disk.
Choose “All files in one partition”.
Finish partitioning and click Write changes to disk, then confirm with Yes.
Install the Base System
Kali will now install the core system files. This may take several minutes.
Configure the Package Manager
If prompted for a mirror, select Yes and proceed.
Leave the HTTP proxy blank unless required.
Install GRUB Bootloader
Choose Yes to install GRUB.
Select the correct device (usually /dev/sda).
Complete Installation
After installation is complete, click Continue to reboot the VM.
Kali will now boot into your new system.
