Why you should use a closed facebook group for your members

A closed Facebook group is a great way to communicate with your membership. There is a difference between a normal Facebook group & a Closed Facebook group.
When you start a closed Facebook group, it’s exactly that, closed.. Unless you are in, or are a part of that group, you cannot see anything, no posts, no images, which members are in it. Nothing.
This is why it’s a really great tool for clubs to use.
Having a Facebook page for your club is great, but a page is really something you want to have your top level stuff posted. Events you’ve been to, club promotions, good news about the club - things you would put on your website’s news page.
A closed Facebook group is somewhere you could put out messages to your members where the general public won’t see.
For example, if your coach couldn’t make a training session because she/he was ill, you wouldn’t want to go spreading the news on your public Facebook page as it would show the club or group in a negative way.
Putting information like that in a closed Facebook group, only the members will see it, other members can tag each other & you never know it might even prompt another coach to step in to take the session.
A closed Facebook group has very similar features to your normal Facebook page, you can organise Polls - ask questions about your lessons, sessions & get feedback from only your members.
The idea of having these discussions on a Facebook page where anyone that decides to visit that page can not only see, but they can also comment on just doesn’t make sense. Putting these conversations in a closed group also encourages others to share their views on the platform as they know that whatever they say isn’t going to be judged by anyone outside the club or group. This is really important.
So have a Facebook page, but only put your top level news, events, results & things you would generally put on your clubs website as ‘NEWS’
For your members, if you don’t already have one, start a Closed Facebook group & invite the members to join. Whoever starts the group is the Admin of it. You can invite others to your group and give people who you know can handle the responsibility either Admin, or moderator status. That means you can share the load of managing the group. They can also remove members too. If you have people that leave your group or club, be sure to remove them from the group too.
