China’s biggest government event of the year, Two Sessions or 两会，has kicked off in Beijing. But what exactly is it? And why should you care?
Today I’ll take you guys through the basics, tell you about the CPPCC member who wants to stop giving student and work visas to foreigners who can’t speak Mandarin Chinese, and look at some interesting upcoming events of the sessions that you should keep an eye on.

Every year, China holds the national Two Sessions in the capital, Beijing. Firstly, why is it called Two Sessions? The name comes from the fact that two different events are held at the same time: the National People’s Congress or 人大，and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, or 政协。I’ll break them down in simple terms for you guys now!
