I designed the Auric Wear Tetramorph Totem T-shirt because I was inspired by the biblical tale of Ezekiel's Wheel and the Cherubs. This story, known to the major religions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, has been stuck in my mind since first reading the scripture.
The imagery within the vision depicts the Lion, Man, Ox, and Eagle- symbolic of the Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John; elements; directions; signs of the zodiac (Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio which was previously an Eagle). These four-faced four-winged Cherubs appear among gyroscopic wheels carrying God about on his throne. In my studies of spirituality, the metaphysical, and new age, I’ve encountered this motif across cultures, time, and continents. I noticed some similar symbols in totems and wanted to go outside my comfort zone in attempting to emulate Native American textiles and totems, although the lion draws from Sumerian (lion) and others have a South American influence as well. Interestingly, American Indian carvings depict serpents as well, which is representative of Kundalini Rising.
