There are two line segments. If you divide the longer segment by the shorter one, and the result is 1.618, then the two segments are in the golden ratio to each other. This number is called the golden ratio
or the golden number.
This number always results when the longer segment divided by the shorter segment is the same as the whole segment divided by the longer segment.
So, the ratio of a to the whole must be the same as the ratio of b to a; then you have the golden ratio.
a/b = (a+b)/a = 1.6180339887...

The ratio of the distance from Mecca to the North Pole to the distance from Mecca to the South Pole is exactly 1.618.
So the golden ratio of the distance from the North Pole to the South Pole lies exactly in Mecca. In addition, on the world map,
the ratio of the eastward extension to the westward extension is again 1.618. Furthermore, the ratio of the diagonal distance from west to east is also 1.618.
Therefore, one could say that the golden ratio of the Earth lies in Mecca.
