Skill-Based Matchmaking, or SBMM for short, is a system that pairs players based on their Matchmaking Rating, or MMR. Its introduction split Dead by Daylight into a clear “before” and “after,” turning the game into an absolute sweat-fest. In this video, I’m going to break down how the original Rank-Based Matchmaking eventually evolved into SBMM, why that shift turned out to be a bad idea, and how I think BHVR can fix things.

In case you randomly stumbled upon this video and you're wondering what this game even is, it's called Dead by Daylight. It's an asymmetric multiplayer horror game developed and published by BHVR Interactive. It's a 4v1game in which one player takes on the role of a killer and the other four play as survivors. The killer's goal is to hunt and impale each survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity.
