Local filmmaker Paul Sobota tells the story of Alida, a 94-year-old Clevelander that has become the unofficial mother and grandmother to so many local refugees. Alida prayed the congregation in her babptist church in Lakewood would grow. The next week a group of Burmese/Karen refugees walked to that church. Alida has taken all the refugees under her wing and considerers them all family, and vice-versa.

Paul Sobota is a Cleveland based photographer and videographer, a graduate of The Cleveland Institute of Art. He has taught at The Cleveland Institute of Art as well as Tri-C. Paul has won awards for several documentaries he’s made for non-profits. His strength is portraits—capturing his subject’s inner life in stills and video.
