Narcissism can be defined as an individual's tendency to consider themselves superior, deserving, entitled, or "special," along with a propensity to marginalize, degrade, and invalidate others in order to feel good about themselves. This false and superficial personality often presents itself as exaggerated, grandiose, and "above everyone else" (the overt narcissist), or as quietly critical, disdainful, and self-absorbed (the covert/introverted narcissist). But what causes narcissism? Experts have identified two main factors.

The reasons for the development of narcissism in an individual can be complex and multifaceted. Among the various factors, two of the most common are "narcissistic wounding" and "narcissistic indulgence."
