Trying to keep my prostate cancer under control:
This is video #27 in the series on One prostate cancer patient's views & opinions after prostate cancer surgery.
This video, #27, was made two and a half years after my robotic radical prostatectomy. What this video shows it is my personal, radical nontraditional approach to trying to keep my PSA in check for as long as possible.
Please understand, that I do not recommend anyone to follow this approach because number one, I don't know if it's of any value. Number two, everybody's medical situation is different and therefore even if something would benefit one person it might be detrimental to another.
If there's anything to be said that's good about prostate cancer, it's the fact that the standard PSA blood test not only is a reliable indicator (not by the number alone but by how quick it increases) that one may have prostate cancer, but, also an indicator that can track the spread of the cancer.
I go for a series of test (including the PSA) every three months. Sometimes, it feels like I'm living three months at a time. From what the doctors say, in my particular situation, (stage IV prostate cancer), it's not a question of if the PSA is going to start to rise (showing that the cancer is spreading) but when it will occur.
It's my personal belief, that even people who had prostate surgery or radiation and believe that they have beat this disease, should not sit idly by, just to be thunderstruck when their PSA starts to increase.
Sure, if you're prostate cancer was confined to the prostate gland itself, you have a good chance of beating it, but, I believe you should have a radical lifestyle change to increase your odds. After all, why not have a healthier lifestyle? Eat healthier, increase your exercise and your quality of life will improve.
