Beyoncé Delivers Powerful Words for Black Graduates, Billie Eilish Says She has ‘never felt desired’

So many artists are doing what they can to help the Black Lives Matter Movement. BTS made the announcement that they are going to be donating $1 million to BLM to help protesting racial injustice and police brutality against the Black community, and their fans have come through to match the donations!

Kanye West is donating $2 million to multiple families of victims who have died at the hands of police and even started a college fund for George Floyd’s daughter. He also joined the protests that were going on in Chicago.

Billie Eilish did an interview with the UK edition of GQ where she talked about the fact that she has never felt physically wanted.

She explained that part of the reasons she wears baggy clothes is due to the fact that her past boyfriends have never made her feel desired. And said it’s a big thing in her life that she feels like she has never been physically desired by somebody. When it comes to the baggy clothes she explained that she doesn’t plan on doing that forever and has even started to switch it up but notices if she ever decides to wear a tank top she ends up trending on twitter. Shawn Mendes announced that he is giving his Instagram Stories over to young black change makers on the frontline in the fight against systemic racism. He wants to use his platform of 56 million followers to gives other the chance to share their stories and information about the black lives movement. (2:08)

There are so many graduates who won’t be getting the experience of walking across the stage with their fellow classmates to accept their diploma but they are getting a lot of words of encouragement from powerful people. Artists like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Lizzo and Beyoncé all gave beautiful speeches as part of the Dear Class of 2020 virtual commencement. Beyoncé’s speech in particular talked about what it was like being a woman working in a male dominated industry. She said:

"...The entertainment business is still very sexist, it’s still very male-dominated, and as a woman, I did not see enough female role models given the opportunity to do what I knew I had to do. To run my label and management company, to direct my films and produce my tours, that meant ownership -- owning my masters, owning my art, owning my future and writing my own story. Not enough black women had a seat at the table, so I had to go and chop down that wood and build my own table...” (2:42)

Republic Records is doing something that could change the whole music industry. They announced that they are now banning the term ‘Urban’ within the label - They explained that the term is part of an outdated structure of the past and they are encouraging other labels and people in the music industry to follow suit.

Urban was a term that started in radio back in the mid 80s and is a synonym for black music. It can be made up from multiple genres like R&B, pop-rap, reggae and soul. (3:54)
