Hey Commanders!! This is the first episode of our Stellaris Academy series designed specifically for complete beginners, share it with your friends that want to play Stellaris but don't know where to start to learn

Stellaris can be overwhelming for new players, but understanding resources and planetary management is the foundation for success. Managing your economy is the difference between dominating the galaxy and getting crushed by your enemies. Resources determine everything, like your research output, fleet power, pop growth (sort of)... and whether you can survive the endgame crisis. New players struggle because they don't understand resource priority, leading to weak economies and weak fleets as a consequence of that

Energy credits pay for starbase upkeep, ship maintenance, and building costs. Without energy production from technician jobs and generator districts, you're probably going to suffer in the mid-game. Minerals are essential for district construction, building upgrades (essentially colony development), and converting into alloys and consumer goods. Food pays for your pop upkeep and can help biological pop growth and assembly (with edicts and ascensions - like cloning vats), directly impacting how fast your empire scales.

Alloys are the most critical resource - they all sorts of ships, starbases and megastructures. More alloy production from metallurgist jobs means stronger fleet power and faster military expansion. Consumer goods maintain your specialist pops including researchers, bureaucrats, and other specific jobs. It might be good to get Masterful Crafters civic if you want to buff your artisan jobs early on, also helps out with trade.

Trade value is used in the galactic market, letting you buy any resources when needed (accounting that either you or any empire in the Galactic Community has access to that resource - excluding Nanites). Strategic resources like volatile motes, exotic gases, and rare crystals unlock advanced ship components, better weapons, shields, armor, and buildings that boost production. These buildings are essential to scale your empire when you ascend - whether you go biological ascension, synthetic ascension, or psionic ascension - because you'll have such massive efficiency and job output bonus that any base add modifier from the buildings will have an exponential effect.

Understanding planetary management, district specializations, building slots, city districts, and resource districts determines your research output (perhaps I'll find one of you early Commanders researching repeatables soon), your alloy foundries for fleet construction, and your research labs for technology progression. Properly managing your ruler pops, specialist strata, and worker jobs maximizes unity generation, amenities production, and overall empire efficiency, but that requires a step further which we'll cover in a more advanced video.

This tutorial covers everything beginners need: resource production, mining stations, colony ships, planetary features, administrative capacity, naval capacity from soldier jobs, and economic optimization. Master these fundamentals and you'll dominate multiplayer, survive grand admiral difficulty, and crush fallen empires and awakened empires with overwhelming fleet power.
