How to Import or Copy a Road Alignment from Google Earth Pro to AutoCAD Civil 3D
________________________________________
Step 1: Set up your coordinate system in Google Earth Pro
Go to Tools → Options → 3D View, and under Show Lat/Long, select Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) and Units of Measurement as Meters, Kilometers. This ensures your coordinates match with Civil 3D’s coordinate system.
________________________________________
Step 2: Mark the start and end points of your road alignment
Use the Placemark tool to drop pins at the beginning and end of the road you want to extract. Rename them clearly (e.g., Start Point, End Point) for easy reference.
________________________________________
Step 3: Copy the coordinate syntax from the placemarks into the search bar
After placing the markers, right-click each placemark → Properties → View
Copy their UTM coordinates (latitude and longitude) from the view tab to the search bar.
________________________________________
Step 4: Create and save your road alignment path
Once created, copy the searched road path to Places. Check your preferred route and uncheck or delete unnecessary information. Once satisfied, right-click your new path under Places, select Save Place As, and choose the .KMZ format to save.
________________________________________
Step 5: Import the KMZ file into AutoCAD Civil 3D
In Civil 3D, set your drawing coordinate system to match the UTM zone used in Google Earth. Then, simply type MAPIMPORT, select your saved KMZ file, then select OK. Your road alignment will now appear accurately and georeferenced in Civil 3D.

Thank you!
