Ancient Egyptian civilization was incredibly powerful and prosperous during its peak in the New Kingdom period (1550-1070 BC), under the rule of illustrious pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Thutmose III, and Ramses II.
During this time, the Egyptian empire controlled a vast territory, stretching from present-day Egypt to the northern Sinai Peninsula and ancient Canaan, a region now encompassing Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, as well as parts of southern Syria and Lebanon.
However, after the mysterious death of Pharaoh Ramses III in 1155 BC, the Egyptian empire fell into decline. Centuries of drought weakened the economy. The economic crisis pushed this once powerful empire to the brink, creating conditions for foreign invasions.
