Elastic Search is open-source again

https://www.elastic.co/blog/elasticse...

https://www.silicon.fr/elasticsearch-...

In 2021, the company switched to the SSPL license (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, Logstash): This license grants the right to view the code, create issues, and submit pull requests. It prohibits modification, at least for production use, and redistribution except through partnerships.

The target is cloud providers who exploit the code without contributing anything in return, primarily Amazon. AWS had previously created a fork called OpenSearch based on Elasticsearch 7.10.

So Elastic is returning to open source by adding the AGPLv3 option. Contributors continue to relinquish their rights.

Elastic claims to have a stronger partnership with AWS than ever before. But isn't this an admission of failure compared to OpenSearch?
