Rant on the use of AI:
While I'm obviously strongly against generative AI I'm also not an idiot. I use LLMs daily to troubleshoot bugs, correct my dyslexic spelling and organize my piles of sporadic notes - which is what they're good at.
(Let's not dive into the obvious value when used by smart people for curing disease, optimizing construction load-capacity etc etc)
However, I would never let a clanker: Generate images, videos, audio or write anything.
Generating content is removing choice and intent. Does pressing the buttons - ordering a pizza from a vending-machine and then calling yourself a chef make you happy? Does that add value?
If you're not finding pleasure in the process of creation, If stretching your skills and creativity does not bring you any feeling of purpose then what does? Consumption? Pressing the "Slop" button over and over again like a mouse in a cage?
I ask you. Does, not-writing, your own essay help to reflect upon yourself and make you a more interesting person? Does, avoiding mastery and making decisions help you grow into the friend you want to be?
Seeing yourself as an "Artist" or not isn't the point. Creation, creativity and overcoming hardship is part of what makes us human. Don't outsource your humanity, you have value.
Rant over.
