Once upon a time, in a time perhaps not so far away from now, the sea is becoming inhospitable for mermaids - due not just to extreme pollutants, but also to the aridization of earth from global warming, and subsequent loss of the oceans.
The mermaids realize that their only chance for survival as a species is to begin to shift their race to be able to live on land.
They undertake the Earth Aridization Hybridization Breeding Project. After failed attempts at forced hybridization with humans, the Sea Witch illuminates that a soul is necessary for a viable hybrid.
Once a soul has been harvested the mermaids think they are finally successful in their quest, and have solved their problem of future habitation, but something is terribly amiss...
