JSON Web Tokens (JWT) are a compact and self-contained way for securely transmitting information between parties as a JSON object. In a Node.js application, JWT is commonly used for authentication and authorization. The jsonwebtoken library is widely used for generating and verifying tokens.
a token is generated with a payload containing a userId, signed with a secret key, and set to expire in one hour. The token can then be verified to extract the payload, ensuring that the token is valid and not tampered with.
