Forelock & Load | Grace Gerry Eventing | Bombers Moulding Day
Forelock and Load work closely with Bombers Bits and recently hosted a bit moulding day kindly hosted at Caroline Powell's yard near Newmarket. Sue Gilliatt is the brains behind the moulding and she works in conjunction with Bombers in South Africa. The moulding days are a super way to look at the conformation of the horse's bars and to get a full work up of the mouth. We have to take the conformation of the bars, the tongue, the palate and the jaw before bitting. This is done by BAEDT Simon Pratley who's a highly respected Equine Dentist. The mould is taken using dental impression material and then we set it in plaster of paris for a full 3D view. We can see any burring, spurs, the fleshiness and lumps or bumps that we might have to bit over. Once these have been read we assess which bits to try and then watch the horse being ridden. We can then tweak and change accordingly.
