Actor Robert Duvall has sadly passed away. He was 95.
Robert Duvall, the acclaimed American actor best known for his unforgettable performances in The Godfather films, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, Lonesome Dove, and The Apostle, has died at the age of 95. He passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday.
The news was announced on Monday, February 16, 2026, by his wife, Luciana Pedraza, in a heartfelt Facebook post that read:
"Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort. To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind."
Over a career spanning more than six decades, Duvall established himself as one of Hollywood’s most respected and versatile performers. He earned seven Academy Award nominations and won the Oscar for Best Actor for his powerful portrayal of a troubled country singer in Tender Mercies.
He first gained widespread recognition for his role as Tom Hagen in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, both directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who had earlier cast him in The Rain People. Duvall later delivered one of cinema’s most iconic performances as Lt. Col. Kilgore in Apocalypse Now.
His extensive body of work also included standout performances in The Chase, Tomorrow, The Great Santini, the television miniseries Lonesome Dove, and The Apostle, which he also wrote and directed.
Duvall is survived by his fourth wife, Luciana Pedraza, an Argentine actress and producer whom he married in 2005. She was by his side at their home when he passed. The couple had no children.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
