Europe and India are moving toward what could become a landmark economic and strategic partnership — with a long-negotiated EU–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) back at the center of global politics. Negotiations started in 2007 and have regained momentum amid supply-chain “de-risking”, tougher geopolitics, and growing uncertainty in the wider international order.

In this episode of Polish Insights on Global Affairs (PISM), host Danuta Isler speaks with Dr Patryk Kugiel (PISM) about why EU–India ties are accelerating, what’s at stake in market access and investment, and why trade is increasingly inseparable from security.

The episode also looks at the political symbolism of top-level EU representation around India’s Republic Day period and the India–EU summit in late January 2026 — and how contentious issues like carbon border measures (CBAM), regulatory standards and sensitive sectors may shape the final deal.
