First Person: Young Black Hispanic in Austin
This year was the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. But it took more than 2 years for the news to make it to Texas. The black community in Austin has changed drastically since that time. Today, blacks in Austin are of many nationalities and even speak a variety of languages -- so the term "African American" sometimes fails to include everyone. We visited with a young boy in Austin who is black -- but his heritage is rooted in Central America. Carlos Wilson's parents are Spanish-speakers from Panama.
