Concrete Installation Guide

INSTALL-

1. SET FORMWORK – Formwork should be installed the same as a traditional concrete pour, keeping in mind a couple of considerations. First, make sure that the formwork is square when a square pattern is being used. Secondly, drive the tops of the stakes even or below the top of the formwork.

2. MASK OFF - Protect all adjoining areas with duct tape and plastic.

3. PLACE CONCRETE – Place, screed (level) and float the concrete the same as with a traditional slab.

4. APPLY COLOR-HARDENER – Once the bleed water has ceased, roll the unopened bucket on its side to loosen the material. Open the bucket and broadcast the Color-Hardener evenly on the surface, without leaving piles, broadcast approximately 70% of the material. Once the color darkens or wets float the surface until the color has closed up. Next, apply a second coat filling in any uncolored areas. Allow the material to wet and float in the opposite direction.

5. FINISH TROWEL – Finish trowel the surface, using a steel trowel or fresno trying to remove any surface trowel marks or dips. At this point if skid resistance is a question, seed a light coat of Color-Hardener and do not float it in.

6. APPLY RELEASE – Apply a thin coat of Release Agent to the surface only broadcasting one to two rows ahead of stamping. Note: Never trowel Release Agent.

7. STAMP – Set the stamp tools on the surface and press it down until full texture is achieved, use a tamper if necessary. Once the tools have been stamped, move them to their next position.

8. S-TOOL or Texture Wheel – Using the s-tool or Texture Wheel, tap down any material that has squeezed up between the tools and continue any lines where needed. Also, apply texture with the texture skin where needed.

ACID WASH AND SEAL-

1. WASH OFF – Depending on weather conditions, wait longer during cooler weather, wash off excess release the day after stamping by using a garden hose.

2. CUT CONTROL JOINTS – Saw cut the control joints ¼ the depth of the slab at distances no greater than 2 ½ feet times the thickness of the slab in inches.

3. TOUCH UP - Touch up any grout lines that were missed with the s-tool by using a hand grinder.

4. ACID WASH – Using a plastic acid resistant pump sprayer and a straw or witches broom, acid wash the surface with 1 part muriatic acid to 10 parts water solution. Spray the solution on a damp surface and scrub it with the side of the broom. Flush thoroughly with water and reapply until an even color has been achieved.

5. RELEASE JOINTS – After the surface is thoroughly dry, use a small paintbrush to rub release into any joints that need color. Then blow off the excess release with a high velocity blower.

6. CLEAR SEAL – Using a solvent resistant roller, seal the surface with one coat of standard Clear-Seal without leaving any puddles. Apply a second coat if needed.

Where slipping is a concern, add 1 to 1 ½ cups of Shur-Grip or Ultra-Grip to the final coat of sealer.
