The elections in Saxony and Thuringia are over, and it happened as expected: The AfD achieved strong results and became the strongest force in Thuringia. While many media outlets are now focusing on the fact that the Thuringian state party under Björn Höcke is definitely right-wing extremist and thus virtually unelectable, the result hardly surprised me. It was simply to be expected. Accordingly, I was not surprised by the election results or their media reception.
On closer inspection, however, I noticed a few things that I hadn't expected. And I'd like to discuss them with you in this video. First, there's the strong performance of Sahra Wagenknecht and her new alliance. She is the decisive power in parliament in Thuringia and Saxony. Without the Federal Social Democratic Party (BSP), there can be no government. This, in turn, puts the CDU in a difficult position, which would like to have Michael Kretschmer in Saxony and Mario Voigt in Thuringia as state premier: Working with the Left Party is forbidden, but with the Federal Social Democratic Party (BSP) it's allowed? So left-wing parties are okay if they don't use gender-based language?
In my opinion, the CDU has really put itself in a dilemma with its "incompatibility resolution." Without opening up to either the left or the right, it's impossible to form a stable government in Thuringia. And CDU leader Friedrich Merz, comfortably sitting in Berlin, emphasizes that the coalition ban remains in effect. Why this is problematic, how Sahra Wagenknecht has her maximum power, and how the Left Party in Saxony has (perhaps!) found a way out of its misery, we discuss in this video!
Thanks for tuning in, and see you next time!
