In this lesson, we walk through how to add a CPU to a new TIA Portal project using the portal view. You see how to access the Configure Device section, open the Add New Device screen, and select a controller such as the basic 1511-1 CPU. The process checks your license, loads the device catalog, and allows you to name your PLC before adding it to the project.

Once the CPU is added, the PLC security settings window appears. Here we disable all security features for now since this is a new CPU and these settings will be covered in detail later. The lesson also highlights the difference in terminology between CPU and PLC, noting that TIA Portal uses the words interchangeably at times, which can be confusing.

Finally, you see that the same steps apply in the project view. By opening Add New Device from the project tree, you follow an identical workflow to select the controller, configure basic settings, and move into the PLC security configuration.
