Katana Makers Tier List of 2024 by Sword Experts
I like the idea of telling people that I'm not a weeb and I'm primarily focusing on European and Chinese swords, but this is hard to explain away. Yesterday I was invited to a live stream (https://www.youtube.com/live/UhV1nGYm...) kindly hosted by our one and only connoisseur Matthew Jensen along with a number of other reviewers including Alientude, Andy Johnston and Joe Steel to chime in on a 2024 tier list of all the active katana makers. I took the time to get all of my Japanese swords out, including the swords from foreign origins that inspired Japanese swordmaking since the Antiquity, historical swords inspired by contemporary Japanese swords, and katana-inspired swords made in the End-times to fight off hordes of undead roaming the land.
It's a wonderfully instructive video especially for newer people who want to enter the market and have the needs to know most of the active players on the market, but I was horrified by the number of Japanese swords and adjacent swords I currently have, including the ones I bought in an intoxicated state😆 and the ones graciously sent to me by incredibly kind people in the industry. I am actually quite grateful to be part of all this, and I think I have been spoiled. Check out that live stream video on Matthew Jensen's channel and feel free to chime in.
