Soil Tests Are Worth It - Here's Why

Most homeowners can get by without doing a soil test assuming they are tending to their lawns with reasonable amounts of fertilizers and seeing results throughout the year.

The main reason however to do a soil test is to learn what soil amendments should be applied to the lawn to minimize the need to fertilize throughout the year.

When your soil pH is too high or too low then the grass plants in your lawn don't use the nutrients available to them as efficiently...or at all...so adjusting the pH of the soil would be a better use of your time or money than applying extra fertilization products.

The best way to get an accurate soil pH reading is to do a soil test and there are many to choose from. In this video I used the Yard Mastery soil test and the MySoil test because they both used the same lab. I wanted to see how the reporting compared using the same soil sample and the same lab.
