Taking a look at Vietnam's visa situation: The country has suspended automatic extensions for tourist and business visa holders, a move few predicted would ever be implemented. Vietnam doesn't have an official retirement visa either.

Many foreigners who used to live in Thailand are now living in Cambodia. They lost their Thai Elite status and had to find an alternate country, and with Cambodia being next door and offering such a reasonable option, they moved further east.
Cambodia's Ordinary Visa which is initially valid for 30 days can be extended for up to 12 months at a time. This is indeed a visa that can be extended indefinitely. For a yearly fee of $300, one could be living in the kingdom, year after year.
Those who have lived in Cambodia for at least 7 years may apply for residency. Once you obtained residency, all your worldwide income would be subject to be taxed in the country. Non residents only need to declare and pay taxes on local sourced income.
