By the way, do you know why we say platypus in French and platypus in English? It actually comes from the two scientists who named this animal in 1799.
George Shaw, a British naturalist (a researcher, not the naked people, those are the naturists), decided to call it platypus, which comes from the Greek "platys" (large or flat) and "pous" (foot), in reference to the animal's webbed feet.
Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, a French naturalist, decided to focus on the animal's most striking feature, according to him: its duck-like beak. Also, "platypus" comes from the Greek "ornithos" (bird) and "rhynchos" (beak) 🦆
