I used to think that if I shrunk back,
Retreated into the shadows,
I would be more accepted
That I would be more womanly
And therefore suitable,
So I cut myself up
Into bite sizes,
So that my presence would not choke
Anyone,
And the lesser of me that I became
the more I felt irrelevant,
The more I gave up,
The more they wanted of me,
So I shut down their shops
and walkways,
Cancelled their subscriptions
And learned to put myself first.
