Sometimes the answer to a complex political question turns out to be surprisingly simple. If there are countries nearby that have spent decades building functioning institutions, developing their economies, raising living standards, and creating opportunities for cooperation, why voluntarily orient ourselves toward a neighbor that constantly lives in a state of conflict, sanctions, mutual threats, and the search for the next external enemy?
This is precisely the question that underlies the conversation. Why should Ukraine look toward Europe rather than try to build its future on the Russian model? After all, friendship isn't about loud slogans about "brotherly nations," but rather something that truly brings people security, development, investment, education, technology, and a higher standard of living.
The most amusing thing is that Russian propaganda has spent years convincing everyone that Europe is about to collapse, freeze, and disintegrate. Yet, for some reason, millions of Russians continue to dream of vacationing, working, receiving medical treatment, or studying in European countries. It's a curious paradox: in theory, Europe is "rotting," but in reality, many would like to enjoy its standards of living.
Another paradox is that good relations cannot be built through ultimatums, threats, and constant conflict. True partnerships emerge where there is mutual respect, predictability, and a desire to develop together. This is why many Eastern European countries have chosen European integration over endless geopolitical confrontation.
