In this first video of my P&ID Reading for Operators series, we break down the 3 most important process diagrams used in oil & gas and refinery operations:
✅ BFD (Block Flow Diagram) – the big picture: major process steps and main material flows
✅ PFD (Process Flow Diagram) – main equipment and main process streams
✅ P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) – the operator’s action map: piping, valves, instruments, drains/vents, and safety devices
You’ll learn what each diagram is for, what it does NOT show, and why operators should start with BFD → PFD before jumping into P&ID.
⚠️ Note: There are many other drawings in oil & gas (isometrics, loop diagrams, cause & effect, plot plans, etc.), but this series focuses on the operator foundation first.
