A video walkthrough of Apple's latest OSX release announced at the Apple October 2013 event in San Francisco. My video highlights just a FEW (there are many) key features and new pack ins on their latest version of OSX Mavericks (version 10.9). There are many useful and improved operating system enhancements that really help tie iOS and OSX together in a unified manner without sacrificing the features that we currently love about OSX. I mention in my video that there is a gradual convergence happening with OSX and iOS and Mavericks is just another milestone of this progressive mating of the two systems. There are a lot of features that I like about Mavericks which include a unified browsing experience in both Safari and Finder, the ability to tag and mark documents and content for quick searches in spotlight or in Finder, messaging within Notification Center as well as the ability to set "Do Not Disturb" as well as the improved calendar and mapping feature offered by Apple Maps.
The most important enhancement however, isn't the applications themselves but the ability for Apple's latest and greatest operating system to operate as efficiently or BETTER than the previous OS. I am always leery and fearful of new iterations of an operating system as historical offerings from companies such as Microsoft have rendered my older computing hardware useless because the system specs don't meet what the OS calls for. OSX Mavericks fortunately performs very well on my old macs (think core 2 duo on a Mac Mini from 2009 and it performs FLAWLESSLY on my quad core iMac from 2010. Apple has managed to make better use of Open CL, memory compression as well as allowing programs like Safari to "sleep" to free up system resources for other apps to use. All in all I like the "feel" of the new OS more than it's looks (looks the same as all other recent releases of OSX).
The best part is that it's 100% FREE for anyone owning a Mac that was built after 2007 or macs that were at least able to run OSX 10.6
Get your free copy today at the Apple App store and enjoy everything it has to offer!
NOTE: There are MANY other key features and enhancements that I was NOT able to cover in this video walkthrough. I've literally been running Mavericks for maybe 3 hours so there is a lot of little neat pack ins that I have yet to discover or will likely never use.
