Making the outdoors accessible goes beyond digging trail. The future of public lands is vibrant and diverse—and holds space for all cultures, races, abilities, body types, sexual orientations and gender identities. We recognize that in the past, conservation and outdoor recreation have served the needs of only a narrow range of Americans, and we want to change that.
Our program Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) operates conservation crew programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth and young adults, led by experienced crew leaders who are also either Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or CODA (Children of Deaf Adults). 2021 was the third year that SECC offered their 'ASL Inclusion Crew', with the support and guidance of partnering organizations like CorpsTHAT and Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.
