Graves' disease, also known as Basedow's disease, is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. In this autoimmune disease, the body produces antibodies against parts of the thyroid gland. These antibodies stimulate the thyroid to produce more hormones and also to grow. Women are significantly more often affected than men. But how do I recognize the disease? What tests are performed to diagnose hyperthyroidism? And how can Graves' disease be treated?
