Believe it or not, there was a point in time when Namco genuinely thought nobody cared about Pac-Man any more — to the extent that they cancelled an entire new Pac-Man game because they assumed the character had no audience left. Before Pac-Man’s later comebacks and brand revivals, Namco seriously underestimated just how iconic and enduring the character really was.
