Creating a Pauldron is fairly simple and much like we have used cylinders to create other geometry within our scene we can use it to create this object as well. We will start by placing the cylinder onto the ground somewhere in the scene. It is often much easier to develop a model that is complex without having to immediately worry about the location. This will allow us to focus completely on the shape and allow us to work without other objects in the way. The primary benefit to shaping a model such as a Pauldron on the ground of the scene is that we can much more easily understand the location of components within the 3D environment.
In the previous video we took a brief look at the variety of component specific tools that are available. In this video we will be making use of those tools to manipulate the shape of the object. These component specific tools are very commonly used and could quite be considered essential to everyday modeling tasks. You will find that as you get used to making use of them they will become second hand to your modeling work flow. Do not be discouraged if, when starting out, locating the specific tool to carry out a component manipulation eludes you. There are many options available for component editing but rest assured that over time you will be able to fly through them all, knowing where each one is located. Do take note that some of the component specific tools are common to each component.
