This tune is based on a repetitive piano riff with very simple harmony, providing a great opportunity to explore improvising without having to think too much about chord changes.
For this workshop, I have transcribed a whole chorus of Cannonball Adderley’s solo, which we’ll study and mine for ingredients to use in your own soloing (minor pentatonics and the blues scale) and we’ll learn how Cannonball takes these simple ingredients and makes them sound so great!
We’ll also look at another option for playing over Dom7#9 chords, using the diminished scale, to give you an alternative sound and endless options with this symmetrical scale.
I've made custom play-along tracks to practice with and these audio tracks, along with all of the notation, exercises and full band parts are included as FREE DOWNLOADS when you sign up for the class.
Everyone is muted in the class, so you are welcome to play along as much as you like, or just tune in and observe. Either is fine. There is also a Q&A session at the end of the class.
