There are visitors we don't know before they arrive. It's like a blind date on Bongo Boulevard. That sounds very romantic. And in a way, it is. Especially when feelings come into play. And chocolate. Complete strangers step into the Mongolian box. And when they come out, they're in love. Or some strange kind of friend. So, if the guys from Death By Chocolate were to call us in the middle of the night and ask for help because a chocolate-spewing hydra is chasing them, we'd be there, of course. Crazy what a little bit of shared fun and cake can change.
But these guys also make it very easy to fall head over heels for them. Not just because they're the most warm-hearted and funniest people we've ever had to drive into our yard in a small bus packed Tetris-style with instruments. Not just because they've been traveling together in this rudimentary style for years, parking in over 600 concert venues. Not just because you can hear in every note, hear in every joke, and read in every gesture that these guys know each other like family (Okay, admittedly: their curly hair reveals that there's real family blood flowing through the band: the two Schlappe brothers were apparently very close even before they started making music together!). Not only that, but also because of that. And because they're infectious. And because you get an incredible urge to squeeze into their bus. And tour with them. Even if it gets really cramped and certainly a bit stuffy, somehow it smells like freedom.
We'd speed along country roads and stop at lakes, swim in the water, eat chocolate cake around a campfire, and tell each other stories of our travels—Matthias would tell them with his mouth full, about his time at White Trash in Berlin, the Montreux Jazz Festival, EXIT in Serbia, Los Angeles, and supporting Bon Jovi. And Marti would chuckle to himself, words bursting out of him every now and then. Words like: "Holy crap! That was the best story I've ever heard!"
And then we'd wonder where the journey would take us. None of us would have a plan. But so what! #youarejustone
