On Friday, June 18th at 12:00 PM, the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the Arche Cultural and Educational Center and the Mitino Landscape Park, invites you to the online lecture "The Medieval Village Through the Eyes of an Archaeologist: Everyday Concerns and the Object World" as part of the European Archaeology Days celebrations.
📢 Images of the Russian Middle Ages that appear on the pages of textbooks and books include the prince and his retinue, the bogatyrs, and the famous cities of Ancient Rus': Kyiv, Novgorod, Vladimir, and Rostov.
But the majority of the population during this era lived in villages and hamlets. How was their life organized? What did rural settlements look like? Who lived in them – only peasants? What did the peasants do, what was their daily life like, and did they live in prosperity or poverty? Everyday objects and remains of structures discovered by archaeologists help answer these questions.
In this lecture, Anastasia Fedorina, a research fellow at the Medieval Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will discuss the inhabitants of the Suzdal region in the 10th-13th centuries.
🔎 Lecturer: Anastasia Nikolaevna Fedorina, Junior Research Fellow at the Medieval Archaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
