"The Kamloops Indian Residential School" was part of the Canadian Indian residential school system. Located in Kamloops, British Columbia, it was once the largest residential school in Canada, with its enrollment peaking at 500 children, in the 1950's. The school was established in 1890 and was in operation until 1969, when it was taken over by the federal government, to be used as a day school residence. The school was closed, in 1978. It still stands, today and is located on the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc First Nation.
Remains Of 215 Children Found At Former Residential School

The remains of 215 children have been found buried on the site of a former residential school, in Kamloops, B.C. Chief Rosanne Casimir of the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc First Nation said in a news release Thursday, that the remains were confirmed last weekend, with the help of a ground-penetrating radar specialist. Chief Casimir called the discovery an: “unthinkable loss, that was spoken about, but, never documented, at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.”
