In this video, I’ll show you how to use one of the most popular sensors in the world of electronics: the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor.

We’ll dive into the science of how it uses sound waves to measure distance—just like bats do—and how to translate those signals into real-world measurements using a Raspberry Pi Pico and MicroPython.

What you’ll learn in this tutorial:

How the Transmitter (T) and Receiver (R) work together to measure distance.

The wiring and pin configuration for the Raspberry Pi Pico.

The math behind calculating distance using the speed of sound.

How to code a "Danger Zone" alarm using a buzzer for objects closer than 10cm.

Components Used:

Raspberry Pi Pico

HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor

Piezo Buzzer

Breadboard and Jumper Wires

This is part of my series on learning electronics and Python. Stay tuned for the next project where I’ll be using these skills to build a Smart Blind Stick!
