What if Switzerland FORMED an EMPIRE?
What if Switzerland was never a neutral country, but an expansionist powerhouse? After unifying its cantons in the 16th century, Switzerland goes on the offensive, striking other South German states, and later some Italian states like Milan, Genoa, and Savoy.
Depending on how successful they are, I can see them reaching the Mediterranean as perhaps Venice would be their biggest supporter, as the Venetians are also enemies with Genoa and Savoy.
