Learn how the Cumberland Community Forest Society is cultivating old growth forests in this interview with ecologist Andy MacKinnon.

South-eastern Vancouver Island has the lowest concentration of old growth forest in the province. How do we add more back into the landscape? Protect second growth, and wait.

Andy's discovery of a Kaufmann's Rootshank mushroom in the Cumberland Forest created excitement about the progress this protected land has made. Kaufmann's Rootshank is typically only found in old growth, ancient forests. The protection of the Cumberland Forest has allowed it to continue fostering this type of biodiversity and regeneration of species.
