Legend has it there is an evil spirit trapped inside Sessho-seki - Japan’s ‘Killing Stone’.
Sessho-seki is a volcanic rock that is said to kill anyone who comes close to it.
But last week, the stone split in half. Directly down the middle. Superstition says, once split, the spirit of an evil nine tailed fox who could transform into the beautiful Lady Tamamo-no-mae is released. And people who grew up with the tale fear the split is a bad omen of impending tragedy.
I want to know the story behind the killing stone. Who is the evil spirit inside it? How did they get there? And what happens now they’re out?
Let's break it down.
