Code Bootcamp | Teach yourself to code | College for CS degree
Should you go to a code Bootcamp? Should you go to a college to learn to program? Or should you teach yourself how to code. When I started my journey of teaching myself how to code I was stuck with the very same issue. And each one of these has their own advantage. And their own disadvantages. If I was a had the money for a code Bootcamp I think it would’ve been probably one of the fastest although I don’t know if I would’ve learned as much as I have. Since I had been forced to myself how to program Code bootcamps are very intense and relatively quick. If you have the money it’s not the worst idea. For me personally I did not have the money to go to a coding Bootcamp and so I chose not to. The coding Bootcamp is not the worst option.
I would argue the worst option is going to college for each Decree. That he going to learn that a lower level language like C you can make an argument that college might be a more suitable choice. But even then there are numerous resources online that allow you to learn how to code for free. So I’d make the argument that even in those cases because of the significant cost of college. Unless you’re awesome for a scholarship or getting a free ride there is not a strong enough compelling reason I know to go that much into debt. Now I was already in debt and college for a totally separate unrelated degree. So I cannot justify spending any more money on learning how to code. As much as I wanted it was very tempted to go to a coding Bootcamp. I thought it was irresponsible and unjustified for me to go to a coding Bootcamp. Instead when I chose to do was teach myself how to code.
So I’m a self-taught developer. Everything that I know and have learned is from resources online. Some are free. And some were only a few dollars. But I did not spend a lot of money. And the reality is that if you are teaching yourself how to code it is very hard to spend a lot of money. It will be impossible for you to spend anywhere close to the amount you would spend in a coding Bootcamp. Let alone eight college to learn computer science. The genius of the code has also forced me to learn how to learn. What I mean it is it has forced me to understand the best techniques for researching things online. And finding the answer to the questions that I have at debugging on my own. I didn’t have a crutch or person to lean on. Which can be very frustrating at times. But it can be beneficial because in the real world. You will not always have someone to lean on and ask questions too. This is already come in handy several times. It’s a very empowering feelings know that you’ve taught herself everything and it’s very empowering to know that there’s nothing that you cannot learn on your own.
One of the First questions I had was if I should teach myself to code. It is alot of work to teach yourself to code. Or you can go to a coding bootcamp that look like they might be worth it.
The big difference on finding out if you should teach yourself code or if want to go to a coding bootcamp is worth it for you. Is to consider the cost of learning to code. Getting to learn to code in college is a very expensive option and I don't think is worth it.
But going to a coding bootcamp can be worth it, if you have the time and money. Specifically, If you have no dept and think it will be the most helpful to you. Under those circumstances, yes a coding bootcamp can be worth it. I have not been to a coding bootcamp. So my opinion on if a coding bootcamp is worth it might be a little skewed.
However, I would suggest starting off by teaching youself code. You have free resources online to teach yourself code for cheap. Also when you teach yourself to code you are forced to really understand What and why you are doing things. If you are not teaching yourself to code it can become very easy to just let the mentor talk and coast.
But this is Just my option and would love to hear what you think.
TLDR: I would suggest teaching yourself to code. I would not suggest College because of the cost. And if you want to go to a Coding bootcamp it can be worth it... It depends on you situation.
