At the height of the Cold War, Naked Snake, the man who would later become known as Big Boss, infiltrates the Soviet Union to extract a defector scientist from there Sokolov. However, his mission fails: Snake's mentor, The Boss, a female soldier considered the creator of the special forces, betrays him, and Sokolov ends up in captivity of Colonel Volgin of the GRU. A week later, Snake is sent back to Soviet soil to rescue Sokolov and eliminate The Boss - this operation will become the beginning of a new legend, written into the inexorable course of history.
