Greetings, friends! And here we are, on our 2023 goose hunt in the Volgograd region. We've bagged 20 geese! It was a challenging hunt due to the difficulty of bringing the slop to the hunting spot. We had to walk 3 kilometers with all the gear. But over the two days of hunting, we had a blast.

I've never seen such raids before; the geese were coming from all directions, circling, singing their songs to us. It was breathtaking. Our endurance is better this time, but we still have to rush ahead prematurely.

We also wanted to hunt a drake on this hunt, but by the way, there are no ducks at all. (And again, the thought comes to mind that number 1 shot is too small for a goose. There were a couple of moments where the shot hit the goose in the belly, but it continued on its way!)
Still, not I'm thinking about buying decoy geese to help us, because no matter how hard I try to learn how to use a decoy, I just can't get it (I strain myself, blowing with my cheeks).
Does anyone hunt with decoy geese? Let me know in the comments. I'd be very interested to know how they work. What beautiful goose raids there were! This white-fronted goose hunt will remain in my memory forever. I even dreamed about it for a couple of days after returning home.
This time, we set up a standing blind. Two walls on either side of the fastener. I don't know the brand. And there's no point in using one.
We thought that a goose would fly around such a blind in the middle of the steppe a kilometer away. And all the hunters standing (passing by) nearby told us the same thing.
But it turned out differently. The goose didn't care when it saw a clear field with water and green grass.
But if we had installed covers on the very first day, the result could have been much better.
But this goose blind proved itself and performed well. You put the covers on, and the goose doesn't care at all about that elevated spot.
All in all, we got 20 beautiful geese over the two days of hunting. Our average is 5 a day. (There were two of us.)
The lids are made of 14x3 fiberglass-reinforced polypropylene pipe.
4 mm wire - it's better to use regular wire than stainless steel! Elastic bands are sewn in for convenience (for inserting grass and other things to camouflage the area). A good option is to make a camouflage net instead of the volleyball net we have.
So if you want to set up such a blind, know that it's a good, proper goose blind that they won't be afraid of. The main thing is to close the blind.
The best place for goose hunting!
Hunting location: Volgograd region!
Camera: I use a Gopro 11 for my main camera, my colleague has a Sony AS300, and I have a few shots from his camera!
Drahthaar (German Wirehaired Pointer)
Ataarms neo12 shotgun, my friend has the same one!
Both my friend and I have shotgun shells with shot number 1!
The downsides of the lid: when you flip it open, you lose precious seconds, and you can also get caught on it, either with your camera or just your head.
I carefully chose the hunting spot, arriving in advance to do some reconnaissance, and eventually found what we needed: bare steppe, with an estuary in the middle of it, full of droppings and goose tracks.
I think this is the best place for goose hunting. Of course, after such a goose hunt in the Volgograd region, I'm disappointed about my six-day goose trip to Kalmykia.
I'd also be interested in advice from experienced colleagues on decoy placement, location selection, and other matters. Does anyone know the correct placement of goose decoys for the best raids? Although we've had some hits, it's still worth it. I'd be very happy.
Don't forget to subscribe, like, and if you don't like, dislike.
I hope there's more to come. Go go goose hunting. If not, we'll be hunting drakes with decoys until the end of April, and then we'll go fishing.
See you soon!
